I rather enjoyed Matter, though some people didnt. Perhaps because it was set in a Shellworld and not on the normal Culture ships and orbitals.
Some people griped about the ending, though I found it to be completely hilarious and a perfect end to a Culture novel.
As of a few weeks ago I have been reading Iain M Banks' latest novel, Surface Detail. Really enjoying it, though I am taking my time over it. I had started Game Of Thrones by George RR Martin but the wife has blagged it from under my nose. She'll finish it in a couple of weeks and be onto book 2 and I can start again from where I left off.
Matter was ok, but I could have done with less of the Fantasy tinged stuff.
Surface detail was more like it.
I've just finished Legend by David Gemmell (well written, but the story waan't very interesting) & Grim Tuesday (decent but not as enjoyable as Monday, I hope Wednesday is better)
Just starting Altered Carbon by Richard Morgan
Christopher Moore books, gone through 5 in quick succession and very very funny
I found "Fool" hard going.
I am reading...looks furtively about..The forth bear by Jasper Fforde shhhhuuu
I'm about half way through "And Another Thing", the 6th Hitch-Hickers book, by Eoin Colfer
Just read "And another thing" and now I'm reading Christopher Moore's "Island of the Sequined Love Nun".
What did you make of "And another thing"?I'm thinking it's ok, but not great...
What did you make of "And another thing"?I'm thinking it's ok, but not great...
I would agree with that assessment.
I am now onto The Mechanical Messiah by Robert Rankin
Where'd you pick that up from you little tinker?
As for "And Another Thing", there's not enough Arthur & Ford
"And Another Thing" was fine as a stand alone comedy SF novel. But it just didn't feel like a HHGG novel to me. It wasn't in DNA's style.
I used to get sent lots of HHGG fan fiction. It was all shite. While "And Another Thing" wasn't as bad, I just couldn't shake the feeling that it was fan fiction rather a "real novel".
