I found this novel well written but rather tedious. It was an interesting experiment to see how a single day in one man’s life could be made to fill an entire book. However, if such an experiment were to be done again, I would suggest finding a more interesting man to follow. The main plot line of the book lies in Henry’s confrontations with the psychotic Baxter but there was not enough action to hold my interest. More of the book was devoted to very ordinary daily routine and a painstakingly detailed, blow by blow description of a squash match which quite frankly had me chewing
the wallpaper. There were some thought inspiring moments and the climax was interesting, but I did not feel any real emotional connection with the rather overachieving, high brow family and nothing that happened could earnmy forgiveness for that interminable squash match.
