I wasn't actually commenting on his musings on the BFS debacle (that should give you some idea as to what I think about it, as an outsider who isn't that bothered one way or another Eye-wink ) - more his slagging Robert off for apparently no reason.

Well what a splendid article from Porrig!
Stephen Jones still had no business lashing out at someone who had nothing to do with the ill considered awards situation.

Have to agree, Padraig's article is a great one. Puts the point across that, really the main man in The British Fantasy Society really should have known better. As soon as there even the possibility of a hint of corruption, someone WILL point the finger. This does not mean that there WAS any corruption, just that someone wants to bleat about it.

Its also just a bit of a bully who attacks an innocent. Yes Stephen Jones I am looking at you. And no, that is not me being a bully or a troll on the internet, I am expressing the opinion that you launched an unprovoked attack on someone, completely without cause. I would also point out something Stephen King said. "Most writers have a legion of fans. Harlan Ellison has a following that will get into fistfights to defend him". Well, I am one of those people, not just for Harlan, but for Robert, for Alan Dean Foster, George RR Martin, Charles Stross and a load of others too. Not a threat, a polite warning.

The main thing is that this whole mess and one mans piss and vinegar at something that is a storm in a teacup really, has brought the whole fandom thing into disrepute. It is the ONLY thing Jones has achieved. Destroying the fans convention for them by shouting off. Well done sir.... jolly well done. Did you ever hear the phrase "Its better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to open your mouth and remove all doubt"?

So we are all agreed that the only thing that Stehen Jones got right is that the Grand Master is nowhere near as clever and funny as he seem to think he is?

Alan Moore got booed? For what? The man is a comic writing genius. Unless someone took exception to him being a pagan and magician.

Do tell Andy, would really like to know what it was all about.

It was a gig by The Enid with a full orchestra & choir at Symphony Hall in Birmingham.
Alan was reading some Poetry at the start of the 2nd half.
I'm not sure if they were booing the content of the poem or just 'cause they wanted the band back on?
Ohh & I don't know why I posted in this thread, my excuse is that I was quite drunk when I got back Shocked
