Something went wrong...

Had a bit of a problem on the site this afternoon.

If anyone wants the long version, the database server was refusing to accept more connections, and the only way I could get it back was to reboot the server. When it came back some table were corrupted. No important ones, thankfully, the problem one being the table that stores everyone's login sessions, the result being that people couldn't log in to the site.

All fixed now, hopefully.

Apologies for the inconvenience.

James

It's been pointed out to me, in an unreleated case, that having the firewall on the MySQL server allow the world+dog to access the MySQL service port would probably lead (in the fullness of time) to a brute force password cracking attempt. This would manifest as "too many connections" as the Chinese battered at the server's doors...

Is the firewall allowing world accees, or only allowing the web server to access the MySQL port?
