I sadly read today that Brentford's finest Real Ale pub has been forced to close due to the owners wanting a 15 percent rent increase 
The publicans, not unreasonably considered this a bit much in todays climate, and have been forced to shut.
It was indeed a sad day, especially as it had been adopted by the club as The Flying Swan of Rankin fame (after the demolishion of the previous one the club had adopted)
To be fair the previous one (The Bircklayers Arms) is still there, it's just 3 flats now
Very sad news about the Magpie indeed KnigCnut, especially as it was an excellent Ale pub.

Reposting from the members area, some rather lovely news:
I got a text at 930 this morning from Derek informing me that the Magpie and Crown will be back open tomorrow Friday the 13th .
Then at text from Steve at 1030 informing me the same thing.The Magpie has done a Phoenix and risen.
Same 2 in charge, same beer and with any luck same ethos
That is good news indeed.
