While I remember - I thought I'd post that only 4 years away is the 1000th anniversary of the 1st Battle of Brentford.
It was between King Edmund Ironside, who was an Angle, and Evil King Cnut the Viking, who was a cnut. Nobody knows the exact date but it was sometime in the summer and would be an excellent excuse for a viking party or boat trip or something in 2016.
Cnut lost the battle, but won the war.
No doubt the Grand Master can explain the "real" events that went on that day involving Griffins and time travel that were edited out of the official version.

I think there is a plaque in Brentford High Street commemorating it. Or that might be another battle. Or indeed a Burger King (one of the lost kings of Brentford.)

The 1642 Battle of Brentford took place largely down the High Street as the Royalists took the town and pushed the Parliamentarians back. So it is probably that one that has the plaque. The 1016 battle is only known to have taken place somewhere in the area; Vikings not being noted for keeping accurate diaries.

I have a long and complicated Rankinesque theory about the 1642 Battle of Brentford that I will explain one day in a seperate thread. Then, when you steal it and put it one of your books, everyone will know where you get your ideas from.
