I know it's old news, the grandmaster posted this earlier himself, but Robert is yet again; due to popular demand, to host the SFX awards at the Weekender.... It was a great weekend last (earlier this) year and a goodly crowd of Rankanites and Sprouts turned up. Get signed up now, find that room mate(s) and let's have a blast... More info here

Re: SFX Weekender 2011

Time is ticking by and I was wondering who is going to commit to this event? Is it worth holding out to see if the discounted tickets they offered last year materialise and risk not getting a place?

Looking at the cost you can expect to pay between £95 - £160 for a chalet space (if you aren't going for the top options) per person - Not cheap considering Dacon would have cost £140 per person, and that was staying in a three star hotel with all food included!

I'm up for the Gold 2 option which is £620 for either four or five people - the chalet has two bedrooms each with two beds and a sofa bed in the lounge. That's £155 per head for four or £124 per head for five.....

Alternatively there is the silver option, this is one bedroom with two beds and a sofa bed in the lounge. Works out at £115 per head for 2 or 3 people.

I'm also quite tempted to pony up the optional £25 extra that allows you to book in on the Thursday and go to the pre-weekend party, meaning you are on site (though probably hung-over) for the start of the official festivities on the Friday rather than getting there and then battling the crowd to sign-in and missing the opening ceremony......

Anyone want to join me?

I'm still debating, waiting for some more guest announcements. I'm sure there were more by this stage last year

Giving some serious thought to going to this. I may have just about enough saved up to pay for two memberships (may as well kiss goodbye to new cams for my bow then). The thing is, as an ex VIP member I should be entitled to a 10% discount. Thats £30 in my book. Which would be rather a lot of booze. Or books. Or just general stuff.

Not too bothered about guests, Robert and Rachel will be there, the sprout crowd will be there... who needs anyone else???

Anyway, hopefully Fleur from the promoters will phone soon and I can try to beat the price down a little bit. It would make up for not making the book signing in London.

Wish me luck Laughing out loud

Yeah, but we can have Robert, Rachel & Sprouts for a lot less money at other events. If I'm forking out over £100 I'm wanting days full of interesting guests

hmmm good point, and I am sure that SFX will deliver. Rememver they were announcing guests right up to the week before the event. So I am fairly sure there is going to be someone there that will tickle your "get stuff signed" gland.

I'm keeping an eye out.

Shame Robert's announcement was the week after the half price tickets went up. Maybe more offers closer to the time

Re: SFX Weekender 2011

To be honest I've moved beyond the guest thingy, I did go through an autograph collecting phase for a couple of years but have run out of wall space for the photos Smiling I did, however, get "The Shat" earlier this year and to get Sulu would almost complete my bridge collection having met and got all the others with the exception of Bones and that one could prove difficult now Eye-wink

I'm most interested in Mike Carey - love his grahic novels and his Felix Castor books.....

Personally I'm going for the Sex, Drugs and Rock n Roll }:) Ok the Beer the Toot Eye-wink

Just paid for the deposit on the weekender.... And got a free upgrade to gold plus. And a 10% discount. Those VIP tickets certainly do seem like a damned fine idea now. Anyway, hope many of you will be there.

Not sure I can afford it this time, sadly. Sad

I won 4 weekend passes to this last night from Cineworld so looking likely I'm going to be in attendance.
